Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account on Sakinah ("the platform", "we", "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you may not use the platform.

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We will notify members of material changes by email.

2. Eligibility

To use Sakinah, you must:

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a Muslim seeking marriage for sincere, halal purposes.
• Provide accurate, honest, and up-to-date information on your profile.
• Have the legal capacity to enter into these terms in your jurisdiction.

Sakinah is a matrimonial platform, not a dating service. By joining, you confirm that your intention is to find a spouse, not casual relationships.

3. Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. You must not share your account with anyone or allow others to access it on your behalf.

You must notify us immediately at support@mysakinah.co if you become aware of any unauthorised access to your account.

One account per person. Creating multiple accounts is not permitted and will result in all accounts being suspended.

4. Profile verification

All profiles are reviewed by the Sakinah team before becoming visible to other members. We reserve the right to decline or remove any profile that we believe contains inaccurate information, violates these terms, or is not in keeping with the spirit of the platform.

Approval of your profile does not constitute our endorsement of any individual. We do not conduct formal identity or background checks. Members are responsible for exercising their own judgement and due diligence.

5. Introduction requests and matches

Sakinah facilitates introductions between members. When you send an introduction request, the recipient may accept or decline at their discretion. A "match" occurs only when both parties accept each other's request.

Contact details (phone number, email address, and wali information) are shared only upon a mutual match. You agree to handle another member's contact details with respect and discretion, and not to share them with any third party.

6. Prohibited conduct

You must not use Sakinah to:

• Create a fake, misleading, or impersonating profile.
• Harass, threaten, or intimidate other members.
• Send unsolicited commercial messages or spam.
• Solicit money or financial assistance from other members.
• Share another member's personal information, photos, or contact details without their consent.
• Use the platform for purposes other than finding a marriage partner (e.g. business networking, casual dating).
• Scrape, copy, or systematically extract data from the platform.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the platform or another member's account.
• Upload content that is offensive, explicit, defamatory, or in violation of any law.

Violations of these rules will result in immediate account suspension. Serious violations may be reported to relevant authorities.

7. Content you provide

You retain ownership of the content you provide on Sakinah (your bio, photos, assessment responses). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display it to other members on the platform for the purpose of facilitating introductions.

You are responsible for ensuring that any content you provide is accurate and does not infringe the rights of any third party.

8. No guarantee of outcomes

Sakinah is a platform to facilitate introductions. We do not guarantee that you will find a spouse, receive introduction requests, or achieve any particular outcome. Compatibility scores are algorithmic suggestions, not promises. The success of any introduction or relationship depends on the individuals involved.

We are not responsible for the conduct of members outside the platform, for the accuracy of information members provide, or for any outcomes arising from introductions made through Sakinah.

9. Suspension and termination

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently remove any account at our discretion if we believe these terms or our Community Guidelines have been violated, or if we believe continued access would harm other members or the platform.

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Request account deletion, or by emailing support@mysakinah.co. Upon deletion, your profile and personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sakinah shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, including but not limited to harm arising from interactions with other members.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the platform shall not exceed the amount you have paid to us in the twelve months preceding the claim. As Sakinah is currently free to use, this amount is zero in most cases.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
